הרעיון:

בחרתי לחפש השראה עבור יצירה זו בעולם הטבע. לדבורים ישנן רשתות חברתיות מורכבות ביותר, לפיהן לכל דבורה יש תפקיד מוגדר וברור, וכולן עובדות יחד להשגת מטרה משותפת יחידה. הדבש - שהוא מזין ומכלכל את הזחלים בכוורת - מגלם את שיאו של מאמץ קהילתי זה.

המבנה המשושי מעורר גם הוא אסוציאציות חברתיות עבורי, מפני שהוא רומז למושג "שש דרגות של הפרדה". המושג, שהוצע לראשונה על ידי פרידיש קארינתי (והתפרסם בעקבות המחזה מאת ג'ון גוואר), קובע כי כל שני אנשים על פני כדור הארץ עשויים להיות קשורים זה לזה דרך שש "חוליות" חברתיות, לכל היותר. מושג זה השפיע על תיאוריית הרשת החברתית, והוא נותר מושג פופולרי עד היום הזה.

יצירה זו מפגישה בין הטבע לסטרוקטורה, ועיצובה אורגני וגיאומטרי כאחד.

The Hive

For this piece, I chose to look to the natural world for inspiration. Bees have very intricate social networks, where each individual bee has a clearly defined role, as they work together toward a common goal. The honey in the hive that feeds and nourishes the young embodies the culmination of this communal effort.

The hexagonal structure also raises social associations for me, as it alludes to the concept of "six-degrees of separation." The idea, proposed by Frigyes Karinthy (and then popularized in the play by John Guare), suggests that any two individuals on Earth may be linked to each other through a maximum of 6 social "connections." This concept is thought to have influenced early theories of social networks, and is a popular notion still today.

This piece brings together nature and structure, and is both organic and geometric in its design
